Description
Today marks the 15th anniversary of TRC Knives. If you are familiar with our knives and their names, you know that we have always been inspired by history’s greats. It was particularly the story of Roald Amundsen that encouraged us to create the Polheim knife.
What can be accomplished in 15 years? Inspired by Fridtjof Nansen’s Arctic drift (1893–1896), the young Roald Amundsen dreamed of becoming a polar explorer. In 1896, he joined the Belgian Antarctic Expedition for his first journey into Antarctic research. Between 1897 and 1899, Belgica became the first ship to overwinter in Antarctica. Later, in 1906, Amundsen became the first explorer to complete the legendary Northwest Passage solely by ship — sailing from Greenland to Alaska aboard his sloop Gjøa. Finally, in 1910, he set off on the schooner Fram to reach the Bay of Whales. On December 14, 1911, after traveling 1,334 km across Antarctica, he established a base camp at the South Pole and named it Polheim – meaning “Home at the Pole” in Norwegian. All of this – in just 15 years.
So, what better choice for our 15th-anniversary knife than the Polheim? In 2010, we also began with a dream – to create the finest knives in the world. Today, 15 years later, we present a knife that marks a milestone in our pursuit of excellence. Whether on a polar expedition or grilling in your backyard, the Polheim will be your faithful companion. With its 100 mm hand-ground, satin-finished blade, distinctive swedge, and luxurious maroon polished Micarta handle, it blends timeless design and elegance with elite-level performance and functionality. The blade is made from RWL34, one of the most balanced and proven steels in the knife industry – reliable and easy to maintain even in the harshest conditions.
Amundsen’s “Home at the Pole” symbolizes extraordinary achievement in extreme environments – and so does this knife: robust, functional, and always ready for action.
Enjoy your 15th Anniversary TRC Polheim.
